The Importance of our work

Nepal is one of the six poorest countries in the world.

More than half the population has to survive on less than 40 pence (60 cents) per day.

Life expectancy is ten years lower than India.

More than ten children every hour die due to malnutrition and disease.

Over 85% of the population is illiterate.

Many years of insurgency, terrorism and political unrest have created a humanitarian crisis within the country.

Nepal is home to tens of thousands of refugees who have made the perilous escape from Tibet over the high snowbound Himalayan passes.

Despite their extreme poverty, the Nepalese are renowned for their hospitality, generosity, and warmth of spirit.
